As we enter into the holiday season, a season where we’re reminded of everything we have to be thankful for, we thought it would be a perfect opportunity to look back on some of the other nonprofits in our community that we’ve supported this year and are grateful for.

Community giving is one of the pillars First Story stands on, but this year our building partner, Hayden Homes, reached a massive milestone – 20,000 homeowners! We teamed up to celebrate this tremendous achievement by giving back to the communities across the Northwest who have supported us and Hayden Homes so wholeheartedly.  First Story was able to personally deliver checks to two of the deserving and inspiring nonprofits selected to receive this celebratory gift, St. Vincent de Paul of Bend and Save a Warrior.

We surprised Saint Vincent de Paul with a $20,000 check at the end of August. Saint Vincent de Paul needed some additional support for their new development, St. Vincent Village. The Village will contain individual, heated sleeping units and a community center with a kitchen and showers. This ambitious project will allow individuals experiencing homelessness to transition back into the community by providing them with a safe space to establish rental history, save money, and get coaching. After presenting the check, St. Vincent de Paul of Bend’s director, Gary Hewitt, gave us a tour of the job site and we couldn’t be more thrilled to support this hugely important undertaking.

We were also honored to present Save a Warrior with a $14,000 grant to support their necessary program for veterans grappling with Post Traumatic Stress. Save a Warrior adopts a holistic approach to healing the trauma that afflicts thousands of soldiers. Our whole office was near tears as Matt Bassitt, representative from Save a Warrior, shared his own experience with the program and how many lives he’s seen it save.

First Story feels extremely fortunate to be able to support our fellow nonprofits. These organizations are doing amazing, life-saving work, and we can’t wait to see what they do next!
