Over the last few months and weeks, the COVID-19 pandemic has drastically changed how we work, educate, play and give. At First Story we’ve been working from home, juggling kids who aren’t in school and worrying about the health and safety of our community and the families we serve. Although it’s still not clear when we will return to normal, we continue to fulfill our mission. We know that it is in times like these that the community needs us most.

Recently, we proudly gave $50,000 to other non-profits providing shelter, food and basic human services in this unprecedented time of need. We will give another $150K this year to support incredible organizations serving vulnerable populations. We found creative ways to hand over the keys to two families fulfilling their dream of first-time homeownership. And we raised the walls on three new homes that will be completed later this summer.

I would like to thank our building partners, Hayden Homes and Simplicity Homes, for standing by us. I would like to thank our First Story Angels for bringing relief to deserving families. I would like to thank our generous trade partners for giving: PARR Lumber, Cost Less Carpet, Aloha Blinds, Isidra’s Cleaning, Fire and Ice, Performance Building Products, Jeremiah Wayne Nichols, MA Wood Excavating, Pacific Landscape Services, Go Plumbing & Heating, Builders First Source, Blind Appeal, Six Brother’s Framing, Black Eagle Landscape.

The pandemic may have forced us to live differently, but at First Story it also reminded us how strong we are together. It reinforced what we have known all along…a home protects the health, safety and well-being of families in our community. I am incredibly grateful for our partners who share our belief in the importance of home, family and community. Together we are doing our part to ensure that everyone—not just families living in a First Story home—has access to a brighter future.
