What if we could? Together we can!
That’s been Rys Fairbrother’s motto ever since launching an innovative online crowdsourcing platform that connects Central Oregon individuals, nonprofits and businesses.
The platform, called What If We Could?, helps increase awareness about local nonprofit initiatives and is a resource for individuals and businesses that are looking to give back.
Rys and First Story go way back. He was a big supporter of local nonprofits before he launched What If We Could and his support of First Story hasn’t wavered.
“Bend has become kind of a destination and as a result, a lot of people have been priced out of the housing market. I think it’s really great that First Story is making some affordable housing options. And it’s great to see that Hayden Homes is a strong partner for them,” said Rys.
One way Rys is helping community members engage with nonprofits is through What If We Could’s annual Shop for A Cause event.
The private shopping event happens in July and individuals and businesses pledge to buy $100 worth of items for their chosen nonprofit. Participants shop for specific items that are listed on their nonprofit’s wish list, similar to Christmas shopping but the gifts go to nonprofit organizations to support their work.
First Story participated in last year’s Shop for A Cause and our wish list included snacks and drinks for our annual golf tournament, which raised critical funds for our home builds.
What’s it all about? Community giving. Together individuals and businesses support nonprofits that then support individuals and other nonprofits. That’s the story Rys is writing, and we’re proud to be a part of it!
