AmeriCorps YouthBuild Program

First Story knows that building homes does more than just put a roof over someone’s head; a safe, quality home enables parents to work, save money and invest more resources in their children’s health and education. First Story is proud to provide affordable new homes throughout Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Our Housing Grant Program brings together individuals and businesses in a community to provide home ownership opportunities to qualified, hard-working and deserving low-income families through a 30-year no interest home loan and no down payment.

Community Giving Grant Program
First Story understands that the core issues facing low-income communities are so complex that one organization can’t make a dent by itself. It requires a strong network of caring organizations working together to give back, to change lives and to empower others. Through our Community Giving Grant Program we support other organizations dedicated to creating pathways of opportunity for low income families, youth and persons in need. By allocating 5% of our annual budget (& 10% of cash donations) to assist underfunded programs serving the low-income public we help other non-profits help those in our community who need our help the most.

AmeriCorps YouthBuild Program
Our partnership with AmeriCorps YouthBuild Program allows us to contribute to the development of at-risk youth while building affordable housing. The YouthBuild program powerfully reengages 16-24 year-old young adults that have typically dropped-out, or run-out of options in school, struggled to find employment, and become increasingly disconnected from our communities. YouthBuild trainees work towards their diploma or GED, learn job skills, and serve their communities as they build homes in our Housing Grant Program.
