Hayden Homes and First Story's partnership has been flourishing for nearly 14 years. First Story began as a way for Hayden Homes employees to give back to the community. Formerly named the Hayden Giving Fund, this simple aspiration evolved into a powerful program that touches families and communities throughout Oregon, Washington and Idaho.
Hayden Homes has sponsored the giving fund since its inception. The financial support comes in large part from Hayden Homes and its employees. Hayden Homes matches, dollar for dollar, every donation their people give. Further support comes from many generous donors and the many trade partners and manufactures who make the Housing Grant Program possible.
Today when you buy a Hayden Home you will also become part of First Story through the charitable fee. The charitable fee is a financial vehicle which gives Hayden Homes the opportunity to expand and leverage their relationships with home buyers to help address our country's problem with homelessness. The fee creates an ongoing method, for those fortunate enough to be able to buy a home, to have a simple and direct way to assist those who are less fortunate. Part of the success at Hayden Homes is rooted in the philosophy that no neighborhood is separate from the community around it and that stronger communities make better places to live.
Upon the closing of a Hayden Home a fee totaling 1/8th of one percent ($125 per 100,000) of the gross sales price of the home is collected from the seller. Then a fee is also collected from each new sales transaction thereafter. Thus each time the home is sold, an ongoing, in perpetuity, fee is generated.
Hayden Homes feels strongly about long term planning to support low income housing. If a homebuyer chooses not to pay the fee Hayden Homes is happy to refer them to another community that does not address our country's significant problem with homelessness.

First Story's partnership with Heart of Oregon Corps YouthBuild Program allows local disadvantage youth to get their GED, diploma and skills training while helping First Story build affordable housing to qualified low-income families in Central Oregon.
The YouthBuild program powerfully reengages 16-24 year-old disadvantage youth from Deschutes, Jefferson, and Crook counties that have typically dropped-out, or run-out of options in school, struggled to find employment, and become increasingly disconnected from our communities. YouthBuild trainees earn a stipend and an AmeriCorps Education Award while they build affordable housing, earn their diploma or GED, and begin to transform their lives. Graduates receive support to secure employment, enroll in college, or start an apprenticeship.
