Our Washington Families:

2011

Solis Family
A new house means a new start and a reason to rejoice after years of struggling for the Solis family. Growing up in a family with abuse and addiction problems, a safe and loving environment for her kids is something Brianna Solis has been working towards for a long time now. “It doesn’t seem real” said Solis as she walked into her new home in September of 2011. “You hear about things like this happening to other people. I don’t know how to put words to this.”

This is the first home First Story built in partnership with Spokane YouthBuild. The home is located in the community of Covey Glenn in Spokane Valley, WA.

Hodges Family
Jessica Hodges and her growing family (Jessica was pregnant with her first child at the home's dedication) moved into their new home in the Kennewick community of Creekstone. The project was a partnership with Hayden Homes and Newland Properties.

2010

Almanzar Family
In December of 2010, First Story gave the gift of homeownership to the Almanzar family. Maria Larios and her husband Ignacio Almanzar emigrated from Mexico in 1989 looking to provide a better life for their growing family. Maria said, “The joy of homeownership to us is the epitome of the American Dream.” Maria and Ignacio, who are putting two kids through college and have a daughter at home, qualified for a new 1031 square foot home with a 30-year, no interest loan through First Story. Maria remembers how excited she was when selected. “It is an amazing blessing to be recipients of this house. We will love and care for it for many years to come,” she said.

2009

Ridenour Family
Annett Ridenour and her family received the keys to their new home on March 24th in the Prospect Terrace community of Walla Walla.  Security for Annett Ridenour is a home where memories are made; where family traditions are upheld and new ones begin. Annett hasn’t known this sense of security since a fire burned her home when she was only a little girl. Her entire life has been transient, moving from one affordable, but not necessarily secure, shelter or rental to another. She’s raised two children and currently resides in an RV with her youngest son, 13-year-old Dylon. She’s celebrated holidays at a local women’s shelter because she didn’t have the means to house her own family. She’s a full-time student, single mom, and full-time worker – cleaning homes and businesses. Her dream to provide a place where her grandkids and grown children can return; a place they can call “home” is a reality today thanks to First Story.

2008

Andrade Family
On July 9th we dedicated our first home of the year Teresa Andrade and her girls. Teresa gives other single moms hope. She’s a survivor. She’s survived a cancerous tumor that forced her to remove a large portion of her kidney. She’s survived an abusive relationship from which she’s escaped with sole custody of her three daughters. She’s faced the hard knocks of life at a very young age. Now in her 30’s she is working full-time as a cosmetologist and attending school to fulfill her AA and Criminal Justice degree. She, like other single moms in the Tri-Cities, has only one hope that drives her ambition: to build a better future for her children. It is because of her dedication, her unyielding strength, that she was granted a new home from First Story.

Fry Family
On August 21 we dedicated a home in the community of Sunset Crossing in Airway Heights to the Fry family.

2007

Lopez Family

As Central Washington's favorite outdoor playground, Moses Lake was the perfect choice for  Elvia Lopez and her growing family.  We are proud to be part of the Sage Vista Community.

Macias Family
In 2007, a home was finally in reach for Alberto Macias and his family. Alberto never dreamed his family could own a home. Now they have a safe place for their children, a dining room table to share a meal together and a backyard for grandchildren to play someday.

2006

Jennings Family
The Jennings family received their home in Airway Heights and enjoy the "small town feel while having access to all of the amenities of nearby Spokane's vibrant downtwon center".

2005

Perez Family
Three Rivers Crossing is a neighborhood of unique charm and endless possibilities. The  Perez family received a home in this West Pasco community. Thomas and Doris Perez and their family received First Story’s first grant home in the Tri-Cities in the summer of 2005. The 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom, 1,031 square foot home was “finally a dream come true” said Thomas.

2004

Prichard Family
The Prichard family received their home in the Spokane Valley; a vibrant city featuring a stunning Riverfront park where the Spokane River flows right through town.
